Action Figures and Safety Training

You’ve likely seen AI action figures, like those shown above, all over social media. If you’d like to create your own, check out the instructions in the April issue of The Safety Training Net.

If you'd like to take it a step further and create a physical action figure, it's possible by following a few steps - and spending a little bit of money.

First, start with a design. Digital tools have made it easy, allowing creators to develop concepts regardless of artistic background. Using accessible platforms like Canva for basic sketching or more specialized software like TinkerCAD for beginners and Blender for advanced users, individuals can transform their ideas into workable designs.

Once the concept is established, transforming it into a physical prototype requires specialized expertise and equipment. The digital marketplace offers multiple pathways to accomplish this transformation: Sites like Fiverr and Upwork connect creators with experienced 3D modeling professionals who can refine rough concepts into production-ready designs. These specialized artists understand the technical requirements of 3D printing and can optimize designs for structural integrity and functionality.

Next, a dedicated 3D printing services such as Shapeways, Xometry, and Sculpteo offer comprehensive solutions that convert digital files into physical objects using various materials.

The development of an action figure prototype represents a significant but manageable investment. Initial modeling costs typically range from $75-$300, while 3D printing services add approximately $50-$200 depending on size and material selection.

By using sites like Canva, and expertise available through Fiverr or Upwork, anyone can create an action figure. Give it a try!

Now - how can you use these with safety training?

1 - Create one for new employees and add it to the onboarding training materials. Be sure to create the action figure so that all required PPE is included.

2 - Create one as a prop to use in safety training classes.

3 - Create a "safety" action figure that represents different departments and/or tasks within an organization. Once these are finished, a variety of safety training activities can be created using the figures. More on this soon!
