Upskilling in 2025

If you hold a certification, you are required to maintain your skills through professional development activities, but where you should focus your energy is often less clear. In 2024, I went through numerous industry reports on trends in safety and health, predictions for the year, and other lists of hot S&H topics. I then combined and condensed the ideas into 12 general areas to help me personally plan for different topics to learn more about, with one for every month of the year. In the January 2025 issue of The Safety Training Net, I included a new list of suggested topics for S&H pros to consider when planning their own professional development based on similar research.

The 2025 Upskilling topics are shown below and include:

1. Emotional Intelligence

2. Data Visualization

3. Immersive Training

4. Gamification

5. Collaborative Learning

6. Large Language Models

7. SIFs (Serious Injury & Fatality Prevention)

8. Safety II Principles

9. Workplace Violence Prevention

10. Predictive Safety Tech

11. Indoor Heat Management

12. Drone Operations

In each monthly issue of The Safety Training Net, I include a summary of one of the upskilling topics, a related training activity, and resource suggestions for subscribers who want to go deeper.

If you’d like to receive the monthly newsletter which includes the upskilling information, as well as other safety training resources and activities, subscribe using the link shown below.

🤔 Which of these topics interests you the most for your 2025 professional development plan? What other topics would you add to the list?
